Smt. M. K. Jayamma and Sri. B. S. R. Sastry Trust awarded scholarships to students on Sudnay, 12th April 2015 at Yavanika, Bangalore. The selection criteria for selection of the students was previous academic performance of the students and their financial need. Students pursuing PUC, graduation, technical courses such as diploma, engineering and medicine were given scholarships. The selection was made from about more than 1000 applications which were received in response to advertisements in leading news papers. More than 100 students were given scholarship in the function.
The programme was presided by Swami Veereshananda Swamiji. Union Minister Sri. H. N. Ananathkumar, Google Vice President David Radcliffe, Fomer Chief Justice of India, Dr. M. N. Venkatachala, and Dr. M. K. L. N. Sastry were chief guests of the programme. Shri. B. R. Nagaraj gave an introduction to the aims and objectives of the trust. The programme was compered by Smt. Sandhya. Shri. B. R. Ravi introduced the guests to the audience and provided details of the social activities undertaken by the trust. Invocation was by Dr. Sindhu. Shri. Srinath gave vote of thanks.
In the programme, many eminent personalities who contributed to the society were felicitated. Carnatic Music exponent Vidwan D. V. Nagarajan, Income tax commissioner Smt. Geeta Ravichandran, Team members of Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement - Dr. R. Balasubramaiyam, Dr. Bindu Balasubramaniam, Dr. M. R. Seethaaram, Dr. Sridevi Seetharam, D. M. A. Balasubramanya, Dr. T. J. Padmaja, and H. D. Malathi - were felicitated. The programme was covered by many news papers
"Education is not meant for a luxurious lifestyle - it is for a beautiful life. Education would make our life beautiful by inculcating rationalism and eternal values. But, educated are misled by pursuing luxury and material comfort through education. A village teenager who has studied only till fourth standard, would exhibit values when he rescues those were drowning in river floods. In another example, a gold medallist in computer engineering would turn to terrorism and continues to kill people. Considering these two real life examples, need for educating values along with knowledge based education is being felt"

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ‘ಐಷಾರಾಮಿ ಜೀವನಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಅಲ್ಲ. ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಬದುಕಿಗೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ’ ಎಂದು ತುಮಕೂರು ರಾಮಕೃಷ್ಣ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದ ಆಶ್ರಮದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ವೀರೇಶಾನಂದ ಸರಸ್ವತಿ ಸ್ವಾಮೀಜಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಎಂ.ಕೆ. ಜಯಮ್ಮ ಮತ್ತು ಬಿ.ಎಸ್‌.ಆರ್‌. ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟ್‌ನಿಂದ ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾನುವಾರ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿದ್ದ ಶಿಷ್ಯ ವೇತನ ವಿತರಣೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸನ್ಮಾನ ಸಮಾರಂಭದ ಸಾನ್ನಿಧ್ಯ ವಹಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು.
‘ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ವೈಚಾರಿಕ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆ, ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿ ಬದುಕು ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ, ನಾವು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಐಷಾರಾಮಿ ಜೀವನಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಎಂದು ತಪ್ಪಾಗಿ ಭಾವಿಸಿ ವಾಮ ಮಾರ್ಗ ಹಿಡಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ’ ಎಂದರು. ‘ಕೇವಲ ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ತರಗತಿವರೆಗೆ ಓದಿದ ಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಹೈದ ನದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಚ್ಚಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದವರ ಪ್ರಾಣ ಉಳಿಸಿ ಮಾನವೀಯತೆ ಮೆರೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ.
ಮತ್ತೊಂದೆಡೆ, ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್‌ ಸೈನ್ಸ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿನ್ನದ ಪದಕ ಗಳಿಸಿದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಜನರನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಉಗ್ರನಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ನಡೆದ ಈ ಎರಡೂ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಜತೆಗೆ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳು, ಮಾನವೀಯತೆಯ ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನೂ ಬೆಳೆಸಬೇಕಾದದ್ದು ಅಗತ್ಯವಿದೆ ಎನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಡಾ. ಎಂ.ಕೆ.ಎಲ್‌.ಎನ್‌. ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿ ವೇದಿಕೆಯ ಮೇಲಿದ್ದರು.
